Vin Diesel shows the world his happy dance, but what has got him so excited? Diesel recently posted a seven and a half minute long video to his Facebook page that begins with him lip-synching and dancing to Katie Perry's "Dark Horse" for about 3 minutes before revealing what inspired his impromptu dance party.
He explained that he received a call from Universal to tell him that Riddick, the third installment in his popular franchise which began with 2000's Pitch Black had beaten out other newcomers like Lee Daniel's The Butler and the Carrie remake starring Chloe Moretz to become the top selling DVD and Blu-Ray title of the week, knocking Despicable Me 2 off the number 1 spot its held for five weeks straight.
Diesel took the opportunity to thank his fans for all the support in getting the film made and also announced that the studio informed him that they also want to begin developing a 4th movie.
Despite having a devoted fan base, a 4th film was far from certain.
The original was a big hit on a small budget which, combined with Diesel's rising star power, lead to the 2004 sequel The Chronicles of Riddick.
The sequel got a huge budget increase to $100 million, but the film failed to find an audience and only made around $93 million worldwide.
This lead to it taking nearly a decade to get the third film made taking the franchise back to a story line more in line with the original and a significantly lower budget.
Riddick managed to bring in around $90 million worldwide on a budget of $38 million which was enough to make it a modest hit, but not necessarily enough to guarantee a sequel.
But it sounds like the home video sales numbers have given the studio the confidence to move forward on a fourth film.
No word yet on when we may see Riddick again on the big screen, but we're guessing we won't have to wait another decade and expect the budget to remain in the $50 million range.
Until then, you can look forward to seeing Diesel play a sentient tree in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1st followed by the seventh installment of Fast and Furious on April 10th, 2015.
